Long-Term Drug Rehab for New Mexico
New Mexico's most recent drug problems are focused around meth. According to U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM):
"Meth is not only the No. 1 crime problem in many communities throughout our state, it is also devastating families and ruining lives,"
The Drug Policy Alliance has secured funding for a statewide prevention program in New Mexico. Drug Policy Alliance (DPA) New Mexico office has been designated to create a statewide methamphetamine education and prevention program directed at high school students, thanks to a $500,000 grant obtained by US Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) as part of a Justice Department appropriations bill. The grant is the result of years of close collaboration between DPA and New Mexico state and local officials dating back to the administration of former Gov. Gary Johnson (R), a prominent voice for drug law reform.
This is an unusual project since the Drug Policy Alliance has never been seen as a service provider and they are notorious for the stanse on the decriminalization of drugs.
The call from New Mexico to the Long Term Rehab Center's hotline are overwhelmingly slanted to problems involving meth addiction. The geographical location of New Mexico lends to meth being smuggled from Mexico via Interstate 25 from the border in Las Cruses and El Paso, Texas.
One of the past-Directors of Substance Abuse for the state of New Mexico said that in NM, as in many other states, there is a tremendous need of Long-term drug rehab programs. Otherwise, those affected by meth use/abuse will not be able to stop the cycle of destruction.
