When a person is addicted to the point of being unable to stop on his/her own, we recommend long term treatment. When we say long term drug rehab, we mean a program that is 90 days or more. If you go by tat list, call them and ask them how long their long term substance abuse program is as sometimes it just means more than 30 days.

Be aware that is is very difficult to find a long term drug rehab center in georgia that is state funded. Private not-for profit programs are usually the best, but if you have no financing for treatment available at all, you may be better off looking for a faith based program.

Georgia Drug and Alcohol Problems

Georgia, being one of the largest states in the South with a population close to 10 million, has more of the drug problems that one identifies with those cities of the northeast than its neighbors. Atlanta is the capital of Georgia and definitely shares in all of the drug issues of any big city. Atlanta has also been growing with many new jobs that are attracting new residents that bring drug and alcohol abuse problems that smaller towns of the south are unaccustomed to.

Some of the most meaningful stats for Georgia are found in the Household Survey:

• Residents between 18 and 25 using illicit drugs in the past month is nearly one in five or 17%
• That same age group, 25% have smoked marijuana in the past year. As with most areas, marijuana is the most popular of all illicit drugs.
• 11% of that same age grouping used prescription drug for reason other than why they were prescribed.
• 6% of that grouping used cocaine
• Georgia being a heavily wooded state, is home of many new marijuana harvest and there has always been an ample supply coming in from Mexico as well as being diverted from Colorado, where it is now legalized.
• As opposed to Colorado, in Georgia, possession of marijuana in an amount of less than one once is a misdemeanor and usually carries a sentence of probation. however,
• the second offence is still a misdemeanor, but now you are looking at one years sentence and $1,000 fine
• Possession within 1,000 feet of a school, which can also be a day-care center, is a felony and can result in 20 years in prison and fines up to $20,000.
• Talking on the phone about marijuana can lead to a conspiracy charge and that is a serious sentence

So, the point being, if you live in Georgia and are smoking marijuana, and you can't quit, you should call us so that we can discuss options that will keep you from being a statistic and the product of the for-profit prison system that is doing very well in Georgia.
